After a few days in Florence, you want to escape the city. Our host of Pension La Scala, Gabrielle, suggested us to go to Fiesole. And so we did….
You can experience a bit of the Tuscan village good life with just a short ride on Florence’s no. 7 bus. As mentioned in other posts, get your bus ticket at a Tabacchi upfront. People tell you to get of at San Dominico, but stay in the bus until you reached Fiesole town. It is UP the mountain, and if you get off at San Dominico you either have to walk UP the mountain or wait for the next bus.
Older than Florence and overlooking it from on high, the Etruscan village of Fiesole has a few sights and cafés on the main square, and best of all, a cool mountain breeze even on a hot September day.
People come to Fiesole to simply wander the streets for a break from the big city sights and a taste of small town Italy. But, as you stroll, do take the time to pop into a few of the the town’s sights.
Fiesole is an escape from Florence. You can visit some ancient sites like the Roman Arena and you can take a steep road up to church and friary of San Francesco. Both worth a look and you have stunning views over the landscape.
There are some villa’s in the area. I haven’t visit any of them but there are a few that you can visit.
